When planning your safari, you may find that safari accommodation can be of two types: a lodge and a tented lodge. What is the difference between them, and which is better to choose?
What is Regular Lodge
A lodge is the same hotel with a reception, restaurant, lounge area, and classic rooms. The only thing that distinguishes a lodge from an ordinary hotel is its location. African lodges are located in the territory of national parks or close to them. In general, lodges are designed so that you can enjoy impeccable views of the savannah, both from observation decks and from the window of your room. Often a watering hole is set up near the lodges, providing an additional source of water for the animals and a fascinating way for tourists to watch the animals from the hotel.
After a game drive, you will return to your comfortable room. Here you will have a bed, a traditional shower, the necessary equipment, and most importantly, there will be strong walls.
You can choose a regular lodge, if:
- You don’t want to give up your familiar accommodation
- You are a light sleeper and do not want to be distracted by outside noises
- You are traveling with small children, and you don’t want them to be frightened by sudden sounds
Lodges to Stay in Africa
Melia Serengeti. A luxurious lodge is in the heart of the Serengeti, surrounded by amazing wildlife and numerous animals. The terrace of the lodge offers an incredible view of the Serengeti plains. You can also watch the life of the national park from any other location, such as the huge infinity pool.
andBeyond Sossusvlei Desert Lodge. The lodge is located in Namibia, in the Dark Sky Reserve. A unique design allows guests to enjoy the beauty of the Namib Desert and the incredibly starry sky right from their rooms.
Singita Kwitonda Lodge. This lodge is located in Rwanda. Two things make it unique: maximum proximity to the Volcanoes National Park and luxurious rooms with panoramic windows through which you can see all this beauty.
Tented Lodge
When tourists first see photos of tents, there is a feeling that this safari accommodation is low level, in addition, it is not safe. In fact, everything is somewhat different.
A camp is the same as a lodge; instead of the usual walls, there will be a tent. Tented lodges come in various levels, but rest assured that the accommodations we offer our guests are a piece of art.
Luxury tent lodges have everything you need for a good holiday. The tent will be equipped with all the necessary furniture, showers, and so on. Depending on the level of the lodge, there may be a swimming pool or a private pool near each room. Here you will be closer to nature. Especially at night, you can hear the sounds of predators and predatory animals. Be prepared that some animals may come fairly close to your tent. But be assured that you are safe. Lodge staff will always be there to keep things under control.
Choose a tent if:
- You’re looking for a new, authentic experience
- Not afraid to try new things
- You want to be closer to nature
