Although many places in Africa are accessible year-round, there are periods when more interesting activities are available for tourists. So, catch a selection of countries where to go to Africa in 2024 to get the most colorful experience!

January–February

If you are planning to start the year with a trip to Africa, you can pick Tanzania, as this is where the wildebeest migration begins. Visit the Serengeti to see the abundance of animals, thrilling moments of hunting, and other predatory instincts. The dry season is a great time to travel to Kenya, as animals are easy to find at watering holes in dry weather. The roads are not washed out by rain, so there are plenty of trails that you can use to get to the most intriguing parts of the park. If you have long dreamed of visiting Cape Town, go there at this time. You will enjoy mild, warm and sunny weather, beautiful beaches and plenty of activities in the city. Also, January–February is a great time to go mountain gorilla trekking. The rainforests will be less humid, and it will be easier to make your way to meet these amazing and very rare animals.

March

Tanzania and Kenya are still great choices in March. The weather is still gorgeous and the number of tourists is gradually decreasing. If you go to the Serengeti, you still have a chance to witness the start of the wildebeest migration. Traveling to Zimbabwe in March will be great because Victoria Falls will be able to show you all its power. South Africa will appeal to those who would like to combine a safari and a visit to Cape Town. The weather in Kruger National Park is perfect — not too hot and cold. These are perfect conditions for a safari. And then hospitable Cape Town will welcome you into its warm embrace and make you happy with good weather.

April–May

In many African countries, this is the low season, but this is not a reason to give up on safaris, because this period has many advantages. For example, there is a much smaller number of tourists and lower accommodation prices. You will not regret it if you opt for the Serengeti. This park always impresses visitors with many animals and gives an unforgettable safari experience all year round.

Also, during these months, we recommend you go to Namibia. It’s not winter yet, but it’s not so hot anymore. These are perfect conditions for an extended trip around the country. If you dream of visiting Cape Town, you can also do it now because of the weather, which makes long walks around the city more comfortable.

The water level in the Zambezi is still high, so April-May is a good period for those who want to see the full power of Victoria Falls.

May is a great time to explore the Okavango Delta and see the many animals that come here to quench their thirst.

June

The most interesting events in Tanzania begin to take place in June. Animals prepare to cross the Grumeti River, one of the main obstacles on the way to Kenya. The great safari season is also starting in Masai Mara, Kenya. The park is not as hot and humid as in previous months, so you will be very comfortable during the day. The same can be said about Kruger National Park. It is not as hot in June, and thanks to the dry weather, there is no high dense steepness, which makes it easier to find animals in the park.

July–August

At this time you will enjoy a vacation in Botswana, Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, and so on. But we advise you to opt for the Serengeti and the wildebeest migration. The animals are preparing to cross the Mara River, the most dangerous obstacle on their way. It is truly a grand spectacle, and tourists from all over the world gather in the park to witness the big event. Lodges near the river are rapidly running out of space, so we advise you to book your trip now!

September–October

This dry month creates perfect conditions for safaris in many countries: South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, and Tanzania. By the way, in Botswana, the Okavango Delta has become fuller, so September is the perfect month to see this masterpiece of nature. If you want to know how migration develops on the other side of the Mara River — go to Kenya. Here the antelopes are recovering from the difficult crossing of the river, but the danger is still present. They attract many predators with their presence, so be prepared to see some impressive wildlife interactions.

November

In November, Africa’s national parks are once again sparsely populated. However, the weather remains comfortable, and daylight hours are added in anticipation of summer. You can opt for a safari in Kenya, go exploring Cape Town, and so on. That is also the time when antelopes return to Tanzania to start a new migration cycle soon. If you didn’t manage to get to this event in July–August, November is your chance.

December

Summer is returning to Africa, and all the tourist spots are starting to play with new colors. Cape Town comes alive again, more people appear on the beaches, and the Garden Route beckons with its bright colors. Winter vacations in Botswana will also be a great choice because, in the Chobe National Park, you can see many predators and large families of elephants. In Kenya, the migration is already over, but you can still go on safari to the big five and then move to the ocean. By the way, in the wildlife in Kenya, as well as, Tanzania, a new cycle begins. Babies of wildebeest, zebras, and cats are also born. You can see with your own eyes this miracle of birth and watch how parents teach their babies to adapt to life in the savannah.
