Itineraries

Day 1

Arrival to Kigali

Arrival at KGL airport, VIP meet & greet—representative of Virunga aviation will meet guests next to terminal entry & assist clients with clearing all immigration procedures.

After all airport formalities, our driver will meet you at the airport exit and whisk you to the hotel for a good rest.

Day 2

Adventure starts

Ready to hit the road? Today's journey will take 8 hours to reach Nyungwe National Park.

En route, we gonna have a stop at King's Palace. Lunch will be arranged at E-bis Resto. Once we reach our final destination - well-earned time for relaxation!

Day 3

Chimps & Canopy

Today is going to be a very active day!

We will wake up for an early breakfast, take our snacks and go for an adventure, to meet the most kindred monkeys - chimpanzees. There are only 400 chimpanzees in this country, so we cannot guarantee that you will see these monkeys for sure, but nevertheless, our guide will do everything possible so that you can find the chimpanzees and take beautiful photos.

Lunch will be served at your lodge.

After we have lunch and some rest—we go to explore the forest in a very extraordinary way, we will go for a canopy walk at an altitude of 50 m! It is the tallest and longest canopy in East Africa. Close up, we will see various monkeys, as well as the most incredible birds that live in this area.

Day 4

Another active hiking day

We'll wake up early for another day which we gonna spend outdoors – waterfall hike, nature walk & colobus monkeys tracking!

Lunch will be served at your lodge.

For those activities, you must be fit and very positive about all-day hiking adventures!

Day 5

From Chimps to Gorillas

So, today we move to the Volcanoes National Park, which is named after the chain of dormant volcanoes that make up the Virunga Mountains, which are separated by Congo, Uganda and Rwanda. Home to endangered mountain gorillas and the Dian Fossey research base, this national park comes alive with the cries of over 200 species of colourful birds and the chatter of a rare golden monkey.

A walk-through lush forest of bamboo, open meadows, swamps and wasteland is sure to revitalise your soul and senses.

Transfer time will take 7 hours with the stop for lunch at Lake Kivu Serena lodge.

Day 6

Gorillas experience

This day will be remembered for a lifetime: we will take advantage of the only opportunity in our life to go to the rainforest in the mountains and spend some time with the famous "gorillas in the fog".

After an early breakfast, we will be given a preliminary trekking briefing before being assigned to groups and walking in the woods. There is no guess as to how long or short our hike will be, as it depends on the gorillas and the weather, so you can stay in the park from one hour to six or more. No matter how long the hike is, the reward at the end is the same: a magical hour of watching these magnificent animals as they relax, play, and eat in the heart of the jungle.

At the end of the hike, we will return to our lodge for dinner and relaxation.

For those who still have strength and energy, if desired, we can organize or a tour of the village or a hike to the waterfall with a guide

Day 7

Golden monkeys & Farewell

This morning we'll start with golden monkeys tracking - they stay at Volcanoes National park but in bamboo forest. Those habitats are very playful & active, so guests will be able to take a great videos & photos together with them.

Lunch will be arranged at 5 Volcanoes Boutique Hotel, and thereafter we'll head back to Kigali.
