A Day in The Wild: An Unforgettable Journey Across the Savannah

Excerpt

Are you preparing for the upcoming safari and daydreaming about what it will be like? Well, we’ll help you visualize amday in the wild!

Of course, a safari in Rwanda, Uganda, or, for example, Tanzania or Kenya is a completely different experience, and each has its characteristics. However, the classic jeep safari in a national park has the same concept. We will talk about the features of this type of travel in this article.

What does a day in the wild look like?

Let’s imagine you are staying at a luxury lodge somewhere in the heart of the Serengeti and have a full day of adventure ahead of you. What will it look like?

Start the day early

Even if you don’t enjoy waking up early, we advise you not to miss a morning safari because it is the best time for a game drive. After all, it is quite cool in the savannah at this time and the animals are not yet trying to hide from the hot African sun. That is also a favorable time for hunting, so you have a better chance of seeing exclusive hunting moments.

So, to prepare for a day in the savannah, set your alarm early or order a wake-up call, get up no later than 5:30, dress warmly (it will be cool in the morning in savannah), and start your adventure at approximately 6 am.

Morning safari begins

The morning game drive lasts from approximately 6 to 9 a.m. During this time, you will see how the savannah wakes up and how nature changes in the rays of the morning sun. You can also see large families of elephants who leisurely go to a watering hole; zebras and antelopes who timidly run across the savannah, trying to hide from predators; pride of lions who share the morning prey; or leopards who have just caught an antelope and are hiding the prey in a secluded place on the tree.

Or, perhaps, you choose an alternative type of safari: a hot-air balloon flight. This immersive experience allows you to see things that are not always possible during a classic game drive. The savannah and its inhabitants will be at your fingertips, and you can fly as low as possible over herds of antelopes, elephants, pride of lions, and so on. Thanks to the fact that the air balloon goes quietly, you will become an invisible observer. You can get closer to the animals without scaring them away. The balloon will also take you along the most secret routes, where a jeep technically cannot go.

Back to the lodge for breakfast

Surely, your morning safari was very exciting, and you spent some energy. It’s time to replenish it! Enjoy a classic breakfast with an African twist. Drink a cup of aromatic African coffee and prepare for an exciting day! Often, lodge restaurants have panoramic views of the savannah, so you can have multiple experiences. Delicious fresh breakfast, flavored coffee, and beautiful nature around!

A few hours to yourself

After breakfast, until approximately 1 p.m., you will have free time. How would you like to spend it? For example, you can use the lodge facilities and go to the spa, get a massage, and so on. Perhaps your hotel has a gorgeous pool with panoramic views of the savannah, and you can’t resist taking a swim. It can be hot during the day in the national parks. The weather asks you to swim and soak up the sun by the pool. If you want to be alone, you can sit on your terrace and enjoy the singing of birds and the sounds of animals, ranging from those rushing from the depths of the park. You can also go on a walking safari, meet local tribes, and so on (if these activities are available).

Or perhaps you don’t want to waste a minute and return to the savannah again. A daytime safari is a different but equally exciting experience.

Don’t forget to have lunch

You experience a lot of emotions while on safari, and although you are sitting most of the time, your body needs rest and recovery. If you decide to stay at the lodge, you just need to come to the restaurant, where fresh and varied food and drinks are already prepared for you.

If you are in the savannah during lunchtime, your lunch will be no less nutritious and tasty! We will prepare lunch for you, and find the most convenient place where you can take a break, have a meal, and some cool wine.

It’s time to go back to savannah

If you’ve spent the day at the lodge, you can leisurely begin preparing for the evening’s adventure after lunch. You have a little time to rest and change clothes (remember warm clothes; it can be cool in the evening). Hang out in the lobby for a cup of tea and wait for your guide to pick you up for your game drive soon.

The evening safari begins

You will spend the evening, from about 4 to 6 p.m., in the park again. Now that the sun is no longer shining so brightly, the animals are becoming more active again. They come out to eat and quench their thirst, so you will again see a lot of engaging things. Sunset in the savannah is a special experience. The sun goes below the horizon and paints the savannah in bright colors. This event evokes delight in its beauty and a little sadness that this magical day is coming to an end. Remember that at the Equator, the sun sets quickly, so in a short time, you need to take beautiful photos at sunset and put the camera down for a while to fully experience the value of this moment. Once the sun has completely disappeared below the horizon, you will be on your way to your lodge. On this note, the safari ends.

Festive dinner at the lodge

Why do we call it festive? Because this day has become a day of significant events for you, and it’s time to celebrate it! Sit in a cozy restaurant, recover after a game drive, drink delicious African wine, and remember the brightest moments of this day!

It’s time to rest

Since your lodge is within a national park, there will be no noisy activities, so after dinner, guests will usually retire to their rooms to relax. If you’re staying with a large group, you can gather in the lobby to chat and share experiences. Some lodges have telescopes so you can explore the Southern Hemisphere sky. In any case, we advise you not to stay up late because a new day will come soon. You need to gain strength for new adventures!
